Born Francis David Baggio to Dino Baggio and Margaret Holmes Baggion in New Jersey in 2001. Frankie was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of eleven. Though he has had very little time to assimilate the disease, the course of its effects could mean his passing within a year of our meeting him. Frankie’s parents are working class, honest people with absolutely no emotional tools to deal with their son’s illness. It is just too unimaginable and painful to handle. Frankie deals with his illness, pain and loneliness with sarcasm. He has a fantastic, dark sense of humor and is a joy to be around. He, Kendall, Joey and Marissa have become a kind of family. He has without question, taken on the role of “older brother”. When George meets Frankie and his three friends, his soul is at once touched and angered by their plight.
Handsome young actor Louis Tomeo (In Sanity, Florida) visually inspires Frankie Baggío, the courageous sixteen-year-old ravaged with cancer, whose fight against his disease is fought with an endearing sense of humor, in Daylight Sucks.
Born Kendall Martina Johnson Borden in 2002 in Kansas City, Kansas. Kendall was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer at the age of nine. The disease eventually spread to her liver, and her prognosis is fatal within a very limited amount of time. A “lifer” in hospitals, Kendall has had the most time to reflect on and understand the nature of her illness. Her parents are lovely people from Kansas, simple but well to do. Kendall is an only child, and as such, her loving parents have done everything in their power to keep her alive. Ironically, it is she who has asked them to pay less attention to her. When we meet Kendall, she has been transferred to the specialized Pediatric Oncology Ward in a hospital in Miami. She has asked her parents to resume their lives and visit her less. Kendall’s pain is not because of the illness; she has accepted it and feels tired. Her pain lies in the anxiety of not being able to see her family again, and the ridiculous policies toward children she has witnessed in hospitals over the years. Funny, beautiful and wise way beyond her age, she has taken on the role of “big sister” in the ward.
Lovely young actress Jackie Frazey (Every Witch Way) visually inspires the beautiful, brave teen cancer patient Kendall Johnson, adopted big sister to children in her cancer ward, in Daylight Sucks.
Born Joseph Levi in 2005 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Joey’s life is a blur even to him. Joey is the child of alcoholics. His ward mates know very little about his life. He is mute but not deaf. He spoke when he was younger and has no speech impediment. A victim of sever child abuse, Joey has stopped speaking or caring about anyone, except the children he lives with now. A ward of the state because of the abuse he sustained, Joey was transferred to the Pediatric Oncology Ward in Miami, never to hear from his parents again. A beautiful child with big, soulful eyes, he has been diagnosed with lymphoma and left to die by his miserable family.
Talented child star Jason Drucker (Bumblebee, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul) visually inspires the emotionally and physically abused young cancer patient Joey Levi, whose love for his newly acquired “family” in his cancer ward gives him the will to fight.
